Hearing Assessment for ACC

ACC provides cover for hearing loss and funding that can used to purchase hearing aids when caused by the following.

An accident

  • Resulting from head injuries caused by accident

  • Single exposure to an significantly loud noise or explosion

A gradual hearing loss caused by occupational noise exposure

  • Resulting from occupational noise exposure

  • The work must be based in NZ or working from abroad as a NZ resident for a NZ agency or company

A treatment injury

  • Resulting from failure to provide treatment

  • Treatment from registered health professional caused hearing loss, which is not an ordinary consequence of the treatment

Binaural hearing loss (Hearing loss from both ears) must exceed 5 % to gain entitlement to lodge a claim to ACC.

ACC Claim Process

  3. ACC Decision

Consultation with Ear Nose & Throat Specialist (ENT)

ACC will arrange an appointment with ENT for further investigation on the cause of the hearing loss.

ACC decision

ACC will collate all the information and makes decision on cover and entitlement and communicate this to client

ACC 45 (Injury Claim form)

From June 2022, the ACC has allowed Audiologists to lodge a claim (ACC45), which resulted from occupational noise exposure. This simplified process made the process quicker, and the clients no longer need to visit their GP to lodge the claim if the cause of the hearing loss is caused by occupational noise exposure.

ACC claim process

Eligible candidate must go through series of process outlined as below.

ACC 724 (Hearing loss questionnaire)

Information from hearing loss questionnaire (ACC724) is used by ACC to determine, if the hearing loss is caused by occupational noise exposure.

ACC 612 (Audiometric report for hearing loss)

Based on the results from the audiometric assessment we must complete ACC 612 report. This part is paid for by ACC and comprised of the following.

  • Otoscopy

  • Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA)

  • Speech Audiometry

  • Immitance Audiometry

    • Tympanometry

    • Acoustic reflex testing

Approved

If approved ACC will provide the following

Batteries

  • ACC provides batteries for hearing aid batteries, which includes standard batteries (Sz 10, 312, 13, 675) as well as rechargeable batteries. This however excludes Lithium ion battery.

  • We apply this for you at the finalisation process

  • When more batteries are required it can be ordered by:

  • ACC also contributes toward the cost of replacing rechargeable battery

    • $75.00 (excl GST)

Repairs

  • ACC provides repair cost up to $ 207.73 (excl GST) per device per 2 years

Funding

  • There are four different contribution levels provided by ACC and are as the following

Replacement

  • ACC funding can be accessed again in 6 years.

  • The process repeats and the cot of the appointments are all paid for by ACC

Declined

You may choose to question ACC’s decision through the dispute resolution process.
